The use of biosolids as fertilizers helps reduce the dependence on oil derived commercial synthetic fertilizers and saves valuable landfill space.

Testing Sludge and Biosolids
Routine sludge and biosolids testing is essential to meet and exceed EPA quality requirements and ensure public safety. Human enteric viruses are often present in wastewater sludge and biosolids intended for land application. The detection of viable viruses in a sample indicates the definite presence of fecal pollution and of human pathogens. Wastewater sludge and biosolids are categorized as Class A or Class B.
Class A biosolids contain negligible levels of pathogens and metals and meet strict vector attraction reduction requirements. These exceptional quality biosolids are highly treated and of a quality that the EPA considers safe for human crop and animal feed applications when applied appropriately.
Class B biosolids are treated, but still contain detectible levels of pathogens. There are land application restrictions for virtually all forms of Class B biosolids.
The wastewater sludge and biosolids testing samples received by Easy Energy can be tested for Enteric Virus using ASTM-D4994-89 method to verify EPA Class A and Class B Classifications and to measure log10 Reductions of Virus Count using Cell Culture and Plaque Assays. The samples can also be tested for Viable Ascaris – Viable Helminth Ova using ASTM-D-19:24.3 Method. The testing procedures are approved by the EPA and ASTM.
Biosolids samples are received and processed 24 hours a day – 7 days a week (including Sundays and holidays) with a turnaround period of 14-21 days. All lab tests and results interpretation are conducted under the supervision of Professor Charles P. Gerba of the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ.
